A native of Madrid, Spain, Sonia Gascón started with classic Spanish dance at the age of 10 and studied this discipline until 19; she continued with tap, jazz and contemporary dance training. In 1998 she began studying acting in the prestigious “Cuarta Pared” dramatic arts school in Madrid, and began working as an actress in stage shows and musicals.
Sonia has performed in a long list of Spanish ´Zarzuela´ operatic shows, as well as touring with many Broadway shows including 3 years’ in the European tour company of Disney´s The Beauty & the Beast, directed by Glenn Casale, performing lead roles and vocals. Her opera singing skills were perfected studying with masters Daniel Muñoz and Maria Luisa Castellanos. She toured with Antología de la Zarzuela , singing and sharing the stage with Plácido Domingo in 2009. She choreographed tap sequences as well as starring in The King Story which toured Spain in 2011. In 2013 she relocated to Los Angeles and began training with Tim Robbins’ ´Actors’ Gang´ and procuring theatrical representation for the US. Her US onstage debut came with the production Cardboard Capital in 2014 directed by Madeleine Dahm.
Since then, she continues her career on both sides of the Atlantic. Sonia’s acting credits include Spain’s national anchor commercials for Lay’s, Fiat, National Lottery, Telefonica, Carrefour and more; voiceover and animated series work such as Arroz Covat in Barcelona, stage tours of La Venganza de la Petra as principal ‘Eudosia’ , zarzuelas Los Claveles as principal actress/singer ‘Jacinta’, La Revoltosa as ‘Encarna’, La Verbena de la Paloma as ‘Casta’ and many others. Currently she’s part of the cast of the new feature horror film IT, directed by Andy Muschietti. Oktoberfest, an almost true story is her first musical theater production in this country.
