Oktoberfest is a Bavarian tradition dating back to the wedding celebration of Crown Prince Ludwig and Theresa von Saxon-Hildburghausen over two hundred years ago on October 17, 1810 in Bavaria. Both Ludwig and Theresa wanted to share their wedding and their vows of love with their subjects, the common men and women of Bavaria, side by side with the royalty and honored guests.
Since that initial celebration, Bavarians have celebrated in October of each year with singing, eating, dancing and the drinking of good Bavarian beer. However, it is not just Bavarians who celebrate Oktoberfest but people in countries all over the world who hold their own Oktoberfest celebrations whether it’s their autumn or their spring, whether they speak German or English or Chinese, whether they have ever been to Bavaria to see the spectacular Oktoberfest first hand or whether they rely on the local pub to create the ambiance in their home cities of Sydney, Hong Kong, Cleveland or Dubai.
All know Oktoberfest is a time to celebrate and to sit shoulder to shoulder with strangers and with friends and to have a raucous good time.
